I. Newbie Must-Read Quick Start Guide

Memorize these core essentials first:

1. The CTRL key fast-forwards through scenes—speedrunners just spam it

2. There's a button in the bottom-right corner that jumps directly to the next choice, super convenient for players who just want to quickly unlock H-scenes

3. In settings, you can change it to jump to the next scene instead, so you won't skip too much content and can balance the experience

4. After completing any route, there's additional After Story content with more H-scenes—remember to select "Additional Scenes" from the title screen

5. All unlocked CGs and H-scenes can be revisited anytime in Gallery Mode

6. Choices marked with IMPORTANT must NOT be selected incorrectly; other choices can be anything without affecting the ending

VII. Full Character Deep Review & Personal Experience

image.png

After speedrunning Sabbat of the Witch last week, I methodically cleared Yuzusoft's Senren Banka this week—honestly, it gave me quite a surprise again. The improvement in this title is definitely not just a small step up.

I also rushed through Banquet of the Lustrous 5, but that really wasn't my cup of tea so I won't write a review about it. Back to Senren Banka, this game is miles ahead of Sabbat of the Witch in several dimensions.

The soundtrack is absolutely catchy and addictive, especially that theme song that you can't stop looping. The voice acting cast is top-tier, every character's voice fits them perfectly. The UI design has improved tremendously—the flowchart feature is a godsend for route progression, way better than certain galgames whose UIs feel like they're stuck 15 years in the past, calling out Banquet of the Lustrous 5 here.

Story-wise, there are six heroines total, and each route was crafted with care, unlike some games that obviously pad the content. Personally, I like Rena's route the most, followed by Chonomi's. The overall plot is much more solid than the previous title—at least there are no controversial story beats that raise your blood pressure. The multi-angle, multi-threaded truth revelation is cleverly designed. The daily life routes of the two sub-heroines may seem plain, but they're full of small moments of happiness upon closer inspection.

Asami Chonomi, as the core main story character, is quite well-developed. The arranged marriage trope is old but well-executed, and the beast ears attribute is a bonus.

Tsuyuha's route is indeed popular, but personally I'm really not into the green-haired loli + flat chest combo, though the story's sweetness level is genuinely high—players who like this type will probably be overjoyed.

Rena's route is my favorite. Viewing the small-town story from an outsider's perspective is very immersive, and that blonde wavy hair hits me right in the feels. Though I gotta say, how is this supposed to be a half-foreigner? She's clearly pure Japanese lol (╯°□°)╯

Madoka's route is also good—the quietly flirtatious type feels much more natural than the senpai character from the previous game, with more realistic daily interactions.

Ruruka's character sprites are absolutely top-tier. Maybe because she appears first, she makes a strong impression—turns out she's just a side character, which is a bit of a shame.

Gotta rant about Koharu's route—the devs' statement that "all characters appearing in this work are over 18" is hilarious. A bunch of college students going to school in a mountain town is basically a workaround for rating approval. If you're gonna meme about this, be careful on forums and don't get reported.

In summary, this game is more than qualified as an entry point to Yuzusoft's works. Out of 10 points, I'd give it a solid 10—that's how biased I am. Probably won't be touching RIDDLE JOKER anytime soon, might even take a break from galgames in general for now. That's all for now.

One last shout-out: Ciallo~(∠·ω< )⌒★—there's a little easter egg in the game that explains the meaning of this phrase, players who find it get a special surprise!

Wishing everyone an early Happy New Year—those of you who made it this far are true fans, thank you so much!
